SAW Cobot

The SAW Cobot from Kjellberg Finsterwalde combines the advantages of submerged arc welding (SAW) with the flexibility of robotic torch guidance. The cobot guides the welding torch precisely and repeatably along a programmed weld path. This makes it possible to weld not only conventional longitudinal and circumferential seams but also more complex component geometries.

Whether welding flanges, nozzles, pipe joints or oval and angular weld paths, flexible torch movement extends the range of submerged arc welding applications. Different welding tasks can be accommodated by adapting the robot's movements, while retaining the proven benefits of the SAW process, such as high deposition rates and stable welding conditions.

The system is designed for welding currents of up to 500 A and supports solid wires with diameters of up to 2.0 mm and flux-cored wires of up to 2.4 mm. Power sources from the KSI or GTH series can be used. The flexible bus interface enables the integration of robotic systems from different manufacturers.

The SAW Cobot is particularly suitable for manufacturing applications involving different component geometries that require flexible torch guidance. Further information on technical capabilities and applications is available in the article on robotic submerged arc welding.
